Working for You

Free local support for autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities as part of our Bright Futures Service. Are you struggling to cope and need support with tenancy, money, benefits or other issues?

Working For You is a FREE information advice and guidance service for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We have a team of experienced workers who provide help and support for people in Barnet with one issue at a time. We can support you with problems you may be having regarding:

  • Housing - Problems with where you live (please understand that we are unable to source housing)
  • Health - Helping you to stay healthy
  • Dealing with other learning disability organisations - Supporting you to have your say. Supporting you with appointments and meetings
  • Finding other services - Letting you know who else can support you
  • Money and Benefits - Helping to advise you on managing your money and claim benefits. Supporting with personal budgets and direct payments
  • Letters - Helping you understand official letters
  • Keeping safe - Helping keep you safe
  • Any other issues you may be struggling with

If you, or somebody you know, has autism or would like to find out if they might have autism, then head to our Autism Service, who offer free autism screenings, help around benefits, finances, housing, employment and much more.

If you want to meet new friends, Barnet Mencap's Community Opportunities Project may be for you. They meet regularly for bowling, meals out, pub visits and more. For more information, please see the Leisure and Learning page.

    Age UK Barnet  - Age UK Barnet is a voluntary organisation existing to serve and promote the interests of all older citizens of the London Borough of Barnet, from all walks of life and ethnic communities.

    Alzheimer's Society - Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The local branch of the Alzheimer’s Society has a family support worker who provides support to families and facilitates two monthly support groups. All carers of people with dementia are welcome.

    Barnet Carers Centre  - Barnet Carers Centre was established in February 1996 as part of the network of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The Centre offers advice, information, emotional and practical support for all informal carers who live or work in the London Borough of Barnet.

    Inclusion Barnet  – Inclusion Barnet is a peer-led organisation that promotes accessibility for disabled people by breaking down barriers to employment and social inclusion.

    CommUNITY Barnet  - Formerly named Barnet Voluntary Service Council, CommUNITY Barnet is a voluntary organisation which was set up in 1979 to support, promote and develop voluntary and community action in the London Borough of Barnet.

    Friend in Need  - A voluntary organisation providing a range of services for older people, disabled people and their carers living in the East and New Barnet area.

    Jewish Care - Jewish Care is the largest health and social care organisation serving the Jewish community in London and the south east of England.
