Statement from Barnet Mencap’s Hate Crime Reporting Project on the escalation of violence in the Middle East
We are deeply saddened by the terrible events that took place in Israel over the weekend and into this week. Here in Barnet, we are proud of our diverse community of many faiths, and we will endeavour to support our residents, clients and colleagues through this difficult time.
Barnet Mencap’s Hate Crime Reporting Project is working closely with Barnet Council, the Metropolitan Police and other voluntary and community sector organisations to stand together and stop hate from spilling over into our borough.
If Barnet residents encounter hate crime, they should report it to the Police and/or a third party Hate Crime Reporting Centre. Barnet’s Hate Crime Reporting Centres support residents to report hate crime and incidents to the Police and can refer and signpost victims and witnesses to specialist support services.
